Join us at the Gallery for our final engAGEing through ARTing program presented by Queensland State Archives. Elysha Rei will travel to Rockhampton to share a presentation and training around the Memory Lounge located at QSA in Brisbane.

The Queensland State Archives (QSA) is proud to be facilitating an Archive and Dementia Program for people living with Dementia – The Memory Lounge.

These Memory Lounge sessions provide individuals with an opportunity to reconnect with cherished moments as they enjoy a guided conversation through local and personal histories. Whether it is a joke from a lifetime ago or a single image, this is our way of connecting old memories with new moment of joy.

This presentation will share the development phase and key learnings from implementing a project that has enabled QSA to increase its attendance and engagement with new audiences within the community. This has been achieved through the physical redevelopment of public space to increase accessibility, staff training in Dementia Awareness and tailored facilitated program activities that connect with individuals in the community and groups from respite and care facilities. The Memory Lounge project is an example of how accessibility to our cultural and collecting institutions can start from the inside out.
