Position Title: Ceramics Project Volunteer

Role:

Volunteers play a vital role in the day-to-day activities of Rockhampton Art Gallery. Volunteers are committed to providing a highly professional and informative service. They require a strong commitment to customer service and a willingness to enhance their knowledge of arts and culture as well as Council procedures to assist them in their role. Gallery Volunteers should attempt to exceed customers’ expectations when responding to enquiries and processing sales.

As a Ceramics Project Volunteer you will:

  • Welcome visitors to the Exhibition, Unearthed

  • Assist with the nesting project which aims to house and protect the ceramic collection in-line with the collection relocation to the New Rockhampton Art Gallery

  • Gain an understanding and awareness of collection management in regional galleries

  • Receive practical, hands-on experience preserving the ceramic collection

 Scheduling:

  • Attend at least 5 days training of the 10 days on offer between 5 November 2018 – 16 November 2018  

  • Volunteer 7.5hrs a week from 1 December 2018 – 17 March 2019.  Could be 1 day or broken up into 2 x 3.5hr shifts per week

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Well organised, committed, reliable and ability to use initiative

  • Good verbal communication skills

  • Ability to gain understanding in work procedures relevant to the work area.

  • Ability to ask questions and follow instructions

  • Able to work unsupervised once training has been given. You will still be supported and there will be staff available to help if you have questions.

  • May have a special interest in art history or culture or have completed studies in art, history or culture
