Curatorial Assistant

Fixed Term Part Time (until December 2019)

Pro rata salary of $60,846 per annum (LGIA Stream A Level 2)

About the Position 

Conduct Gallery operations to the research and development of curatorial activities to present a lively and engaging exhibitions programing at Rockhampton Art Gallery, achieved by conducting research, interpretation, documentation for curatorial projects.

About You 

Do you have skills and experience in art and exhibition program delivery, and have a broad passion for art?  Rockhampton Art Gallery is seeking a Curatorial Assistant to join their team on a part time basis until December 2019. You will be responsible for contributing to the development, research and presentation of exhibitions, art projects and art programs at the Rockhampton Art Gallery. As a strong team player, you will work together on installing and de-installing of exhibitions ensuring the high standard of presentation, security and programming meets Council’s guidelines.

Your time management, organisational skills and strong capacity to plan your workload will assist you in the delivery of programs vital to the growth and development to the Gallery. Visual art, education and museum studies will be your main point of interest and knowledge, and you will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will have good attention to detail and have significant vision and imagination, with a passion for innovation and creative direction. 

You will also have the ability to work outside of normal office hours as required, including weekends. 

This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).

Position Requirements

  •  Undertaking or completed a degree qualification in Fine Arts, Art History or Museum Studies, and/or knowledge of  art history and art processes, gained through experience within an Art Gallery/Museum environment
  •  Proven ability to conduct research and prepare original written material from research
  •  Knowledge of computer systems including design programs and database systems, or proven ability to acquire the  skills quickly
  •  Planning workloads, time management and project coordination skills
  •  Work within a team environment to develop innovative solutions
