Now That We're Here: 10 Years of Contemporary Painting
Available from July 2022
Now That We’re Here: 10 Years of Contemporary Painting, is an exciting showcase which captures the evolution and critical agency of painting in Australia over the past decade.
This exhibition brings together a selection of artists exhibited in Rockhampton Art Gallery’s biennial painting prize, The Gold Award from 2012 to 2022, with the opening date of the tour serving as the 10-year anniversary of the award. The artists showcased in this exhibition represent a wide variety of styles and influences, with commonality found in the wealth of opportunity presented by paint. Many of the artists exhibited in Now That We’re Here use painting as a platform from which current themes, genres and concerns emerge and collide, in particular highlighting a nuanced connection to place, status and social history. The artworks speak collectively to diverse conceptual and stylistic approaches across a generation of Australian artists, and presents a well-rounded view of the connections and debates surrounding current Australian painting practice.
