This full day mixed media workshop is suitable for all teachers who have a passion to develop and inspire their student’s knowledge of techniques in drawing, painting and the use of a wide range of media. Friends of the Gallery Winter Artist Market

A Friends of Rockhampton Art Gallery initiative - Winter Artist Markets are held on the last Sunday of the month throughout May, June, July, August and September. Located within the Gallery's cultural precinct, Winter Artist Markets are a place where you can purchase regional artist and artisan made products and services. Winter Artist Markets are a window into the creative heart of Central Queensland. Here you will find innovative art, and be able to buy direct from the makers and artisans. Meditation and Art merge every Monday morning at Rockhampton Art Gallery. This is a unique opportunity to experience the profound benefits of mindfulness meditation through the experience of art. Start your week among the works at the Gallery in quiet contemplation, and curate a state of relaxed inspiration. Mindfulness meditation is a non-religious practice that is scientifically supported by clinical research and proven to alleviate a variety of mental and physical conditions such as depression, anxiety and pain.

All of the art materials are supplied, as well as tea or coffee for the accompanying parent.

Offered once a week the program is hosted by an expert in the field of relaxation and exercise. What better way to open your mind than taking advantage of the space and time to immerse yourself in the Gallery.

Our Beatrice Hutton Room is available FREE of charge for all school and educational bookings when available. The room includes 30 chairs, chalk board, a fridge for lunchboxes and water bottles, kitchenette and large tables (when available).

Exhibition Opening | Bayton Award

Be the first to hear the announcement of the 2017 Bayton Award winner - awarded a total prize pool of $17,000. It only happens once every 730 days, so come and celebrate at Rockhampton Art Gallery. Enjoy the best Central Queensland artists in an evening not to be missed. The Bayton Award is an initiative of Rockhampton Art Gallery Philanthropy Board, Rockhampton Regional Council and is hosted by Rockhampton Art Gallery. The Award is valued at a total $17,000 of cash and in-kind contributions and is open to artists of the Central Queensland region. Judged by the Philanthropy Board and Rockhampton Art Gallery Director, the Bayton Award for Central Queensland artists is a biennial, acquisitive Award celebrating the diversity and excitement of visual arts in Central Queensland.

Artist in Conversation | Bayton Award Finalists

Art and Dementia is a monthly program that invites people living with dementia and their carers to a 60min session with a trained educator for a structured program that uses the Gallery’s permanent collection as a backdrop for memory stimulation. Gallery Representation | Fact not Fiction

There are both myths and unspoken truths behind what it means for an artist to be represented. In this 60 minute talk, Gallery owner Edwina Corlette will unpack what it means to be represented. It is a decision that every artist has to make, come along and hear from a Gallery owner and operator as she shares with you her insights about the world of commercial galleries. Edwina will also address what galleries are looking for, what the market is looking for, and the steps to being represented.

Pitch Your Portfolio with Edwina Corlette Gallery is a limited opportunity for Central Queensland artists to meet with gallery owner and operator Edwina Corlette. This is your chance to show your work to a representing gallery. A rare opportunity not to be missed! Spend 30 minutes with Edwina talking about your work and her response to it: take 15 minutes to pitch your artwork, and receive feedback from Edwina for a further 15 minutes.

There are only eight 30-minute one-to-one sessions, so book now to secure your spot.

Collaborate or Bust: Working Together, Arts Law Workshop

Working with other creatives can mean sharing your space, your ideas and your copyright. This workshop will explore creating and owning copyright jointly, incorporating a collaborative group, and some of the opportunities and responsibilities that arise when collaborating with other artists. If you would like to update your knowledge for a more sustainable arts practice and get a clearer understanding of the legal frameworks behind collaborative processes or projects, this workshop is for you.
