Coming into Fashion: A Century of Photography at Condé Nast celebrates some of the most iconic images from the past 100 years of fashion. Sourced from the Condé Nast archives in New York, Paris, Milan, and London, the exhibition brings together the work of 80 photographers who went on to become the biggest names in the history of fashion photography.

With a portfolio including iconic magazines Vogue, Vanity Fair, and Glamour, Condé Nast has always been situated at the forefront of fashion’s photographic avant-garde. Uncover the evolution of style and glamour through the photographs of Cecil Beaton, Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, amongst many other notable names, alongside rare haute couture from the Darnell Collection; Australia’s largest private collection of fashion. Such luxury fashion pieces have inspired fashion photography’s stylistic looks and silhouettes, embodying the glamour and enduring tastes of a century of fashion.

Today, the work of fashion photographers is exhibited in the most prestigious museums. Their photographs are sold by galleries and auction houses for considerable prices, and each year publishers release new books dedicated to the best of the genre. Iconic images by Edward Steichen, Erwin Blumenfeld, Helmut Newton, Herb Ritts and many other fine practitioners have been exhibited extensively in solo and group shows.

The discovery of most of the biggest names in fashion photography can rightly be credited to the legendary publisher Condé Nast, as so many photographers’ careers were launched on the pages of his magazines – predominantly in his flagship, Vogue. During the past 100 years the publishing house has celebrated the world of fashion in all its spectacular incarnations.

A world-class exhibition of fashion photography, hosted by some of the most renowned fashion destinations across the globe including Paris, Milan, Berlin, Moscow, and Tokyo is now right here in CQ. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience the exhibition and the array of exclusive parallel programs and events.
